About Archivo Papers
Archivo Papers is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the study of photography, visual archival practices, and their intersections with visual culture. Founded in 2021, it explores both historical and contemporary perspectives on photography within broader archive-driven discourses.
Through its thematic issues, Archivo Papers examines how images shape and are shaped by memory, knowledge, and social narratives. The journal engages with topics such as photographic archives, collections, and the shifting material and immaterial dimensions of images, considering photography as both an object and a practice. It addresses issues of preservation, circulation, mediation, and the politics of visual memory while fostering interdisciplinary dialogue across photography, visual studies, art history, cultural and media studies, and other related fields.
Archivo Papers welcomes scholarly articles, creative work, and theoretical inquiries that explore the relationships between photography, archival contexts, and the cultural significance of visual practices. Published by Archivo Press, the journal also organizes the annual Reframing the Archive conference on photography and visual culture in collaboration with Archivo Platform.
